High-power asymmetric DFB lasers with cascaded partially corrugated gratings (i.e., consisting of the non-corrugated grating (Lng) and grating section (Lg)) are proposed to generate a larger output power than a standard PCG-DFB laser. With the systematic design of multi-section PCG-DFBs, the device could preserve high single-mode yield (SMY) even under a high temperature with an HR-coated rear facet and AR front-facet reflectivity. This provides the high-reliability in implementing the cascaded lasers to improve the performance or enhance the output power. As a specific design example, with Lng1 = 150-μm, Lg1 = 550-μm, and Lng2 = Lg2 = 150-μm, the laser can have about 100% SMY at both 25 and 75°C temperatures, >140.01-mW average output power, and high-power percentage up to 62.16%.
