This research describes an innovative method to fabricate microfluidic paper-based device (μPAD). μPAD is a simple, easy, rapid, cost-effective device for POC and environment monitoring. By the combination of colorimetric and smartphone, the μPAD can easily perform a quantitative result to the user. Over the past ten years, μPAD has been through a stunning development and rapid advance. The utilization of μPAD becomes more and more versatile. However, the methods of μPAD fabrication still remain in either high cost with good resolution or cheap with low resolution.
Here we introduce a splendid and creative method to fashion a μPAD by a simply ameliorated three-dimensional printer and it only requires one step. Just put the filter paper on and it will be done within 5 min. Besides, this process is a mask-free procedure, the design of μPADs can be arbitrarily changed for the customized usage. The minimum width of the hydrophilic channel and the hydrophobic barrier is 445 um and 468 um. Beside no metallic mask is needed and it only cost 1/5 or above compare to other wax printing facility.
